How did you get to be known as DJ Teddy Rockspin?

I got my DJ name in High School. There was a talking bear named Teddy Ruxpin. A friend of mine stopped me in the hall and was like, I got a DJ name fore you.. DJ Teddy Rockspin. And the rest was history.

What got you interested in DJ culture?

What got me into the DJ culture was the music. I was 13 and my cousin took me to a college party/fashion show in LA. I didn't dance. I was just loving the music. I watched the DJ mix it up, cut and scratch. Seeing the people's reaction to the next song was amazing. He held the CHI/Energy.

What superstar DJs do you look up to and why?

Q-Bert, Tiesto, DJ AM. They are all pioneers in their own style of music. Q with his turntablism. Tiesto with his Melodic tracks and seemless mixes. DJ AM. need I say more? They all stayed true to their craft and that is how I intend on following in their footsteps.

Have you played in Hawaii before?

No, I have never played on your beautiful island. It has been a dream of mine to play for the people of hawaii. To bring the energy and soul that music on the radio has been lacking. We live in a digital era. Where Facebook, Twitter are our means of communicating. There is SO MUCH music out there. With the Internet, Blogs, Online record pools that there should be NO reason we hear the same stuff over and over. ie Mainstream Radio. I will play the hits, but throw in a few gems here and there to spice it up. I really look forward to spreading this Love we call Music! Friday 1/22 @ Bonsai & Saturday 1/23 @ Pleasure Lounge. *PLUG* =P

If this is your first time rocking out in the 808, how did this opportunity come about and what was your reaction to getting the gig?

I completed my CD/MP3 mixes and thought how could I get the music out to the people? I started calling all my industry people and reached out to DEEJAY DAWN. She has been keeping up with my mixes that I upload to my Facebook.com/TeddyRockspin *PLUG* I told her about my CD release and she worked her magic and secured the Venues for me. Thanks DAWN!

How are you going to bring the flavor of your city to Hawaii?

I am going to bring the flavor of Teddy Rockspin. The city I'm from is just where I sleep at night. I am a Martian. I am here to uplift the people and enlighten them through the art of Music.

How important is recognition to you?

To me recognition is not important. Moving the crowd is. When I play @ a venue, when the crowd stays till the very end, no matter how big or small the place is, that is what's important to me. That the people who came had such a good time that they forgot about time. The energy is PURE, the crowd is HYPED, for ME to be recognized for THAT is the most important. There is a quote I read where it says. Music is the Weapon of the Future. Well the Future is NOW.

Have you made your mark as a DJ yet?

I have made just a scratch compared to the mark I want to leave. I want to play in Stadiums along with the Greats like Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, and our fallen brother DJ AM. As the Black Eyed Peas put it best. E.nergy N.ever D.ies. Let's Gooo!!!!

A - The jewel is a rare and precious gemstone that has high value and is hard to find. I named this The Jewel Chronicles because like gems & stones they are timeless & precious. It's a prized treasure that many of us keep dear and near to our hearts. The word chronicles tells the story of life and the journeys we all go through. Whether you're having a good day or bad, The Jewel Chronicles is here to keep your life going through the power of music.

Q - How long did it take Teddy Rockspin to produce this entire mix?

A - This mix took roughly about 3 months to produce. This includes playlist and track selection, finding distrubition,
designers, and print shops.

Q - Will there be any more MP3 mixes available after this one?

A - Definitely. The journey and the chronicles don't stop here. They keep going just like Endless Entertainment.
Hand in hand the music goes with the parties. Life is all about enjoying yourself with good music. No music. No life.

Q - What motivated you to produce this 8-hour non-stop mix?

A - The void in the mixtape era. Tired of all the yelling, poor quality, over priced BS. I bought a mixtape a few months back to 'support' the artist and when I listened to it, I cringed. I will not reveal the name of the dj, but I figured I should give the people more than they bargained for. 8 hours of non-stop music on 1 disc. MP3 format because we live in a digital era, where local music stores are shut down due ti itunes and illegal downloads. I wanted to give the people what they deserve and that's GOOD MUSIC!

Q - What makes The Jewel Chronicles different than other mixes that other DJ's release?

A - Well, first & foremost this mix is 8 hours long.. These mixes cover a wide spectrum of music. You can listen to this mix 10 years from now and the songs will still hold value, memories, moments. I must say though, this whole cd was a group effort. Big ups to Endless-Ent.com, TheComMissionSJ.com, Cat of ILOVEclubbin.com, Model Jewel Le, and all my friends, fans & supporters. You ROCK!!!
